Experience

ABB industrial robotics

I have programmed, installed and commissioned over 50 ABB industrial robots in New Zealand and Australia. These range in size from the very fast FlexPicker to the heavy payload full layer palletising robots. Products handled include: petfood pouches, glass jars, cartons, cans, timber and plastic pottles.

Allen Bradley control systems

I have programmed the range of Allen Bradley PLCs from MicroLogix, PLC5, SLC, CompactLogix and ControlLogix, including the GuardLogix safety PLCs. Networking includes RS232, DF1, DH+, DH485, ControlNet, DeviceNet and Ethernet/IP. Other control system components including PowerFlex VSDs, Kinetix servo drives, Flex IO, Point IO, Stratix managed ethernet switches, PanelView 32, PanelView Plus and PanelView 5000.

Experienced in high level logic such as implicit and explicit messaging, including TCP socket client and server logic in the PLC communicating directly to web servers via REST API and socket connections to custom Visual Studio applications.

SCADA systems

Industrial Automation’s Ignition Vision and Perspective, Allen Bradley FactoryTalk View SE, Wonderware InTouch, Wonderware System Platform.

Integration to Allen Bradley PLCs, SQL Server databases, REST API, historical data logging and OPC server connections to devices other than PLCs.

Industrial networking

Experienced in configuring managed ethernet networks involving VLANs and routing.

Also, IO Link, ASi, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, WIFI and legacy serial protocols.

Sensors and transducers

Experienced in selection, configuration and troubleshooting of a wide range of sensors including machine vision systems, optical, inductive and ultrasonic sensors, pressure transducers, flow meters, encoders, weigh scales and barcode scanners.

Integration

Connecting systems together for data transfer. For example, linking control systems to inventory systems such as in apple packhouses, weigh scale raw values to inventory systems, carton routing control based on barcodes or attributes returned from inventory systems.

Others:
  • AGVs (Automatic Guided Vehicles) and AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots).

  • Custom machine vision integration

  • Label printer, label applicator, inkjet integration

  • Interfacing to various machines and devices such as metal detectors, X ray, glue machines, strapping machines, weighing systems
